CHARLINE’S POV

The moment I saw a call I knew where to find her. I rushed to the table she was seated on and took some or two bottles of tusker lite with her. Her face covered in sobs and looked frustrated and she turned to me and just smiled. Her smile is a charm; it makes me fall in love with her always. The guys in the bar were shouting as us “look at these lesbians” she smiled and just whispered “I wish we were, I know you would not hurt me.” I looked into her eyes and told her how much I loved her. “Let us go home Brenda” I told her as galloped the last part of tusker lite. We walked out of the bar it’s only the bar man that shouted us “you lesbians, have not paid my money” I stopped to go and pay him but she was too weak to stand alone. It’s too dangerous in Uganda to be identified as a lesbian because it can warrant you prison.

I looked at Brenda and smiled at her. I don’t know why I always feel so close to her. She is so gorgeous and kind hearted. She is the love of my life, the sister I never had. When she told me that she loved Jonathan and I knowing the kind of person he is I immediately agreed that she should go ahead and entice him. I have no problem with being a co wife to Brenda after all it would be a chance that I will forever live with her on my side. She is that person that I can give my life in order to save her.

I told her to create a way Jonathan would like her and he would give me less attention. She opted that I starve him sexually as she makes herself available to him. Brenda is beautiful soul that I never wish to lose in my life. So, Jonathan has fallen for the trap and seems happy because he has both of us.

U may wonder why I love Brenda so much that I would give my boyfriend to her. I met Brenda well back in form two. She was always carefree and never engaged herself in anything she deemed unhealthy for her. One time, it was end of term night and we had this thing called kiromo that involved a lot of things. We could not sleep on such a night except making noise around the school and playing games the whole night.

One day towards kiromo I had prepared my suitcase for the journey home since I had finished my exams earlier that day. Others were in their respective classes except me and a few people who had finished the exams had been in the dormitory preparing ourselves. I took a nap on my bed and observed that a girl called Diana game to our cubical and opened someone’s suitcase picked her money and an avocado and left to her room. I had seen her but she thought I was asleep and did not recognize her. Since I was weak I opted to keep quiet and tell he owner when she comes.

When they finished exams, they immediately came to the dormitory to prepare for the night of fun. The members of my cubical came while making noise on top their voices. They jazzed from how the paper was to the plans for the night. They wanted to go out of the school to meet their boyfriends.

Supper time came and we were supposed to head to the dinning for it. Sofia the owner of the case noticed that her avocado and money were missing but did not say anything. She went to the dining hall ate like everyone else observing keenly if I had an avocado in my food. Good enough I did not have it in my food and I was seated on the table adjacent to Brenda’s. Time reached and we left for the dormitory of course with a lot ululations. Thought all this time I did not say anything about the afternoon incidence. When we reached the dormitory I started seeing everyone moving out and coming back with a bucket of water.

Sofia called me aside and asked me why I had taken her money. She told me how she was observing me well and asked why I had eaten the avocado before supper. I felt angry due to her accusations and squeezed her tightly shouting why she was accusing me. The friends turned against me asking why I was acting tough yet I had stolen the money and the avocado. I looked at them with more anger and told them that I would not tell them who stole the money and the avocado since they were acting all angry.

“You are lying you small girl” Sofia retaliated to my words and told the friends to tie me and she shows me a course. You can be anything in Uganda but don’t be a thief or gay. These will cause you death. At this time, it had attracted the attention of other students in the dormitory. Everyone came around including Diana and Brenda. They were all ready to handle the thief by beating thoroughly without involving the school management not even the matron.

Diana was the first one to give me a hot slap and I started seeing stars. She was shouting how they were tired on thieves in the school. Rachel, Sofia’s friend was the strongest and oldest amongst us. She got my bed sheets tore them and used them to tie both my legs and arms. I was excruciating because I was innocent and the thief herself was the first to slap me. While all this was happening, Brenda was just leaning on the bed looking on. She only moved to ask if I could talk to her privately because all the girls were beating the hell out of me. They suggested that they take me to the matron such that I could be expelled from the school and Brenda objected it strongly. They shouted at her because she was not sure of what she was saying and she was in form three one class ahead of me.

Brenda insisted, called me aside and started asking me what exactly happened. I narrated the whole story to her and even pointed at Diana who had stolen the avocado and the money. Brenda turned back to them and told them that the thief was actually Diana. This prompted another hot slap on my face from Diana. “You can’t be a thief and lie against others.” Diana shouted and continued that I should be taken to sleep out in the compound waiting for the matron. They poured water on me. Oh God it was so called that I even fainted. Diana was still heading to beat me saying that I was pretending and that is when Brenda held her and they had an entertaining fight. They accused her of eating the things with me.
